I picked up a new HT after my only DMR TYT radio became unable to be programmed. I ordered a Baofeng DM32-UV with a coupon for around $75 from Amazon. After a few weeks of use I like the HT but do have a few gripes:
- Screen is unreadable in sunlight – Literally unreadable, you can’t even tell what channel it’s on.
- Programming Software – Like most of the Chinese software theres no support for moving a channel once it’s created. No Cut/Copy/Paste at all. Also at the time of writing CHiRP still doesn’t support this model.
- Speaker Audio – The speaker audio is very low so in most environments the volume needs to be around 75% at least. The audio is also very “tinny” and has no bass with minimal mids and mostly all highs.
The good:
- Spurious emissions as tested are within spec
- Easy to program other than convenience features lacking in the software. Once this model is fully support in CHiRP it’ll be much easier to program.
- Like most Baofeng radios it just works.
